So lately I’ve been reading this manhwa called Bride of the Water God. Yes, you read it right. A MANHWA. Now usually I won’t read this kind of thing since I never really like Korean-related things, manga included. But my facebook’s friend posted this thing on her wall and out of curiosity I clicked the damn link and so here I am, trapped in manhwa world (along with my kouhai) OTL
Ok, so the story is abt the bride of water god. There’s this girl (forgot her name since I can’t remember those weird Korean names) who was sold by her father to be sacrificed to the Water God. Aaand when she was thrown to the river she falls to the Water God’s palace and met him here. Turns out that the Water God’s actually a shota… who will turned into hot bishie at night due to the curse of his ex wife. But the idiot girl thinks that the night Water God’s his cousin and so hilarity ensues. So after they cleared this misunderstanding the girl became the Water God’s new wife, but when they started to get cozy the ex wife rise from her grave and was pissed coz her ex husband loves his new wife more than her. Add political backstabbing, civil war between the gods, crazy fangirls and you got his manhwa.
Like I said before I usually didn’t like manhwa but I will make an exception for this one coz they got some interesting character. We got a tsundere Water God who loves to troll people, a tranny evil Emperor of Heavens, a forever alone knight with his psycho/bitchy lil sis and many more. Oh and they also have some crazy court there. And don’t forget that ALL LOVE IS UNREQUITED. Except for the Water God and his new wife.
But other than interesting character and the politics, I don’t really like this. The drama, they’re too long and too sappy and sickeningly sweet that it started to tastes like diabetes. And they got one hell of love pentagon here (I said pentagon coz everyone in this manga seems to obsessed with the Water God. Even the GUYS). But sometimes they got some epic moment, like when the girl brotherzoned her osananajimi when he proposed to her, or when Water God trolled his psycho ex wife and the emperor. Other than that it just drama, drama and more drama.
All in all, this one is quite good… for shoujo manhwa anyway. If you can stand the drama I guess you can enjoy this (especially if you’re one of those Korean fangirls). For you who prefer action and fight, I definitely won’t reccomend this. Heck, even I don’t know why I read this manhwa but somehow I’m going to continue reading this so yeah, Enjoy it.
